In West Virginia, the Division of Energy (Division) provides valuable energy conservation information, resources, and assistance to individuals and businesses that improve the energy and environmental performance.  In addition, the Division institutes a Ride Share Program for state employees, establishes energy efficient Lighting Grants program for schools, and provides assistance to energy intensive industries.  The Division was earlier known as the West Virginia Department of Energy.

The West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health Safety & Training is responsible for the supervision of the execution and enforcement of the provisions of the state’s mining laws and rules.  In addition, the agency protects and preserves mining property and property used in relation to mining activities.

The Public Service Commission of West Virginia (Commission) provides for the public safety through inspections of motor carriers, railroads, and natural gas pipelines.  The Commission also ensures a utility regulatory and transportation safety environment that balances the interests of all parties.

Further, the Office of Oil and Gas (OOG) in the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is responsible for monitoring and regulating all actions related to the exploration, drilling, storage, and production of oil and natural gas.  The key programs and projects of the DEP includes the Rehabilitation Environmental Action Plan (REAP) and the Project CommuniTree.
